Business areas

VIDA's production is focused on four business areas: structural timber, packaging, bioenergy and paper.

Structural timber
At 7 technically advanced sawmills with modern equipment, the group saws 1,100,000 m3 annually. Each sawmill is specialised in a specific range and market. Around 85% of production is exported to Europe, the USA and Asia. Sales of sawn wood products are via a sales company, VIDA Wood. Via its own purchase company (VIDA Skog), VIDA buys most of its raw materials from private forest owners. A total of around 2 million m3sub (solid under bark) is acquired annually.
In recent years, to reduce costs in an increasingly competitive global market, the group has strongly specialised the operations of its various units. Over the same period, there has been heavy investment in logistics. The group's own train and own distribution warehouses in a host of countries are some of the results of this.

Packaging
VIDA Packaging is the Nordic countries' leading and most modern producer of wooden packaging. Through our network of group-owned production facilities and our wide product programme, customers can be offered complete logistics solutions. Our facilities are geographically well spread throughout Sweden and thus ensure nearness to the customer, economies of scale and streamlined production. Offering products in various materials, our ranges enable us to create tailor-made solutions for each and every need. Our closeness to the VIDA group's sawmills gives us stable and certain access to the necessary raw materials. Consequently, we are able to be long-term reliable partners for all our customers. VIDA Packaging has customers all around the world in a large number of business sectors.

Energy
VIDA Energi manages the group's investments in the bioenergy market. The residual products of logging and value-adding operations in sawmills can both be refined into renewable energy in the form of products such as forest chips, log chips and pellets. From the energy point of view these are all extremely efficient. VIDA Energi annually produces 2 million m3s of by-products for energy purposes.

Paper
VIDA Paper is the group's paper mill. The mill is an integrated mill with its own sulphite pulp production. Twenty-five percent of VIDA's chip production is used in pulp manufacture at Lessebo. The mill produces 33,000 tonnes of pulp and 60,000 tonnes of fine paper annually. The fine paper is uncoated and of premium quality. It is sold under famous brand names such as Scandia 2000, Lessebo Design, Colorit and Kaskad. Within the framework of VIDA Paper's operations, there is also Lessebo Handpappersbruk (handmade paper mill), which was founded in 1693. At this mill, the last of its kind in Sweden, paper is still made exactly as it was over 300 years ago.
