This Policy is an appendix to VIDA Paper AB Environmental policy
The process of traceability certification requires that the holder of a certificate is able to ensure that the uncertified wood they deal with does not originate from so-called controversial sources. This entails the seller of the forest raw material being obliged to present a written assurance that the raw materials sold do not have their origin in any of the following:
- Illegal harvesting (without legal rights or using illegal methods)
- Genetically modified species (not relevant for Swedish wood)
- Forests where civil or inherited rights are infringed.*
- Forests where high preservation values are threatened by forest management, in Sweden primarily areas that meet the National Board of Forestry’s definition of key biotopes **. (not applicable to wood from biotope protective action in key biotopes that require management measures)
- areas that have been transformed from natural forest into plantations or non-forest land (not relevant for Swedish wood).
* Areas where there is considerable controversy with indigenous populations or other social stakeholders regarding rights of ownership or usage of forest land.
** For an international definition High Conservation Value forests (to be used when purchasing imported wood) see the FSC standard STD-30-010 for further details.
